  1.      SbFFT version 1.2, a program for spectral display and filtering using
  2. Sound Blaster audio cards.  COPYRIGHTED FREEWARE.

  6.      SbFFT is a spectral display and filtering program for use in Amateur Radio
  7. and audiophile applications.  It's features include:
  8.  
  9. *    Sound Blaster 16 (or 100% compatible) input and output.
  10.  
  11. *    Band widths of 2K, 4K, 8K or 16K Hz.
  12.  
  13. *    Spectral resolutions of 1 Hz to 16 Hz per pixel.
  14.  
  15. *    Display of power spectral density with any of 4 color maps in either
  16.      linear or logarithmic scale.
  17.  
  18. *    Define and use up to six filters simultaneously -- band pass, band stop,
  19.      low pass, and high pass.  Filters have 25 Hz skirts, 3 to 50 dB.
  20.  
  21. *    Filters are defined graphically by mouse movement.
  22.  
  23. *    Net filter passband is displayed at all times.
  24.  
  25. *    CDROM and line SB 16 inputs
  26.  
  27. *    .wav file inputs and outputs
  28.  
  29. *   Filters can be selectively enabled and disabled by a single keystroke.
  30.     This allows for quick reconfiguration in case of changing conditions, etc.

  34. commands before running this program.

  38. REQUIREMENTS (see manual.txt for full explanation):

  40. SB 16 or 100% compatible, DOS 3.0 or higher, mouse,
  41. minimum 486/66, Pentium recommended,
  42. SVGA, VESA 640x480 & 1024x768 resolutions, 380K free RAM.

  46. DIFFERENCES FROM VERSION 1.1
  47.  
  48. 1)   The SbFFT program has been built with a smarter graphics library.
  49.      It should now operate with a much wider range of VESA SVGA cards.
  50.  
  51. 2)   The AGC algorithm has been enhanced.
  52.  
  53. 3)   Defaults have been assumed for the BLASTER environment variable.  If the
  54.      variable is set in your system, whatever information it contains will
  55.      be merged in with the default values.  See Installation, below.
  56.  
  57. 4)   An interrupt conflict between the MPU401 and the A/D converter on the
  58.      Sound Blaster has been eliminated.  Because of this comflict, SbFFT would
  59.      start and terminate normally but would not display spectra on some sytems.
  60.  
  61. 5)   SbFFT now generates pcx files instead of tiff files.  The pcx files are
  62.      a fraction of the size of tiff files.  Also, the graphics library that
  63.      generated the tiff files failed to initialize the tiff header completely,
  64.      causing some graphics viewer programs to crash.
  65.  
  66. 6)   Improved mouse response at fine resolutions.
  67.  
  68. 7)   Full screen mouse movement to make filter definition easier.
  69.  
  70. 8)   Filters may be enabled/disabled or deleted by mouse clicking in the
  71.      filter active band.

  73. 9)   Numerous typographical errors have been eliminated from the manual.

  77. INSTALLATION
  78.  
  79. 1)   create a directory C:\SBFFT
  80.  
  81. 2)   copy the .zip file to the directory C:\SBFFT
  82.  
  83. 3)   Unzip the .zip file.  You should find files:

  102. 4)   Make sure the Sound Blaster card is installed and functional

  104. 5)   Insure that the BLASTER environment variable is set.  If necessary, put
  105.      into the autoexec.bat file on the boot drive a command of the form
  106.

  110.      where aaa = base address of the SB 16 card (usually 220)
  111.           ii =  number of free interrupt, i.e., one not used by another device
  112.           d  =  8-bit DMA channel (usually 1)
  113.           h  =  16-bit dma channel (usually 5)
  114.          yyy =  MPU401 (MIDI) address (usually 330)
  115.

  118. 6)   uninstall or disable screensavers
  119.  
  120. 7)   SBFFT.EXE is ready to run
  121.  
  122. 8)   as a minimum, read the sections 'Screen Display' and 'Alphabetical list of
  123.      commands' below before you run the program
  124.  
  125. 9)   for a quick test, if you have a CDROM attached to your Sound Blaster,
  126.      start an audio CDROM playing with a DOS CDROM player and run the program.
  127.      Alternately, you can play the rs-12.wav file included with
  128.      this package.  Type 'B' 3 times to put SbFFT into 2K Bandwidth. Then type
  129.      'P' and when a file name is requested, type 'rs-12'<Enter>, without
  130.      the quotes.
